The three sisters, Cathy, Patty
(as she was called growing up), and Danni, were very close in age with just over two and a half years spread in-between them.
Cathy was born in Roswell, New Mexico, while Patty and Danni were both born in Santa Monica, California.
Patty and Cathy were separated from
their baby sister for over a year after their mother experienced her first mental breakdown. The older two were sent to live
with an aunt while Danni stayed with grandparents “Mamal” and “Pamperbert.”

Having moved
from Venice Beach to Ivanhoe, California, while still quite young, the sisters quickly adapted to being country kids --
no shoes, mud-caked fingernails, wild unkempt hair, and ragged clothing. “Mamal,” who was William’s mother, and who, of all the extended
family, always showed the greatest concern for the girls, hand-sewed much of their clothing throughout their childhood.
Mamal and Pamberbert did not live near the girls growing up, but managed
to visit several times a year.
After graduating from high school, Cathy went to cosmetology school; Patty spent two years
at the local junior college, the College of the Sequoias, before transferring to Fresno State University; and, Danni attended
Brigham Young University in Utah.
